If I had some votes and my opinion mattered, here’s who I’d vote in….my order:
Jack Morris
- in the 80s? I mean….this is the guy I’d want on the mound…..Proven World Series Winner with the Tigers, Blue Jays, Twins. Went 10 innings to ensure a win in the post season. ERA – yeh…a little high and doesn’t have 300 wins – I say SO WHAT. If I wanted someone on the mound when it was for the world title….it’s Jack Morris.
Jim Rice
- He totally dropped off but that’s a good thing since he didn’t linger and, no way he was taking sterroids with that drop – off….but…..he was one feared hitter and he has the stats and awards to prove it.
Andre Dawson
- I’ve always been an Andre Dawson fan. Injuries aside, this guy put up some serious numbers…..AND! He went to Chicago on a “blank contract” during “Collusion City!” year. That takes a lot of inner strength to do that.
Bert Blyleven-
- A guy who pitched on bad teams but pitched very well and has a bunch of strikeouts. Put Him In.
Rickey Henderson
- Well – he has a lot of stats to back him up…..but….i’ve gotta tell you…..he was a cry baby and I’m glad that Bobby Valentine made him look like like a spoiled brat when he pulled him from a game for a defensive replacement.
I’m On The Fence
Lee Smith - The Save has just become more of a “ho-hum” stat.
Dale Murphy - I just don’t know if he has enough stats to put him in the hall. From what I’ve read, he seems a great person and teammate.
Mark McGwire
Harold Baines - always liked Harold Baines – but he’s more a guy who gets his number retired from the team(s) he played for in my book. If his knee had been better….his stats could have gone up and made him a lock
Don Mattingly – I’m a huge Yankees fan, but….his back did him in too quickly.
Tommy John (note – the person who did his arm surgery should go into the hall of fame)
Mark Grace (note – Mattingly and Grace are the same person in my eyes and I don’t think that either should be in….both very good but not great)
Tier 3 – 10 in no particular order because it doesn’t matter
Dave Parker
Alan Trammell
Jay Bell
Dan Plesac
Tim Raines
Greg Vaughn
Mo Vaughn
Matt Williams
Ron Gant
David Cone
Jesse Orosco
