So….I’m in the car on Friday with my daughter and I call her Mary Lou.
She tells me she doesnt like that name.
I say….I’ve been calling you Mary Lou since you were a baby.
She says – but Daddy….I couldnt hear you saying that daddy. Well I could hear you….but….I couldnt tell you.
I said - Oh.
Then, she says some very astonishing words that let me know she understands COMPLETELY.
She Says: Daddy? You were a boy right?
Me: Yes I was.
Her: Well you were little right?
Me: Yes I was.
Her: Well…You changed right?
Me: Yes I did.
Her: Well I changed too. And I dont like the name Mary Lou.
Me: *astonished at how well she’s articulated her point and citing an example* You’re right Mary. You changed. And Change is good. So….I wont call you Mary Lou anymore. Ok?
Her: Yup. *big smile on her face*
You see – she’s very proud that she could speak to a point and articulate it clearly so I’d understand. And, I did.
Great stuff!

I took her to a “concert” at a small venue in Virginia on Saturday night. And, I wont bore you with details, but we had a discussion on behavior for the night since she might be the youngest person in the audience. And, the importance of listening and letting me know about trips to the potty or if she wanted something.
I will tell you – i could not have been more proud of my daughter.
At school, she has red, yellow and green behavior (green is the best)….I told her her behavior was BETTER THAN GREEN……IT WAS PURPLE!
She was – again – so proud of herself…..and….again…..as it should be.
A weekend of awesomeness.
I loved it. And, will forever remember it.
On Sunday, we took it easy and I rememer being on my stomach and she lying on my back with her head just lower than my neck. aaaahhhhh. The memories I’ll take with me to my final days.
